Become the First Academy Fellow
The Academy invites graduate students to submit proposals for its Inaugural Summer Associate Research Fellowship.
The theme for the 2026 fellowship is:
The Relationship Between Creativity and Human Flourishing
Applicants are encouraged to approach the theme from a variety of perspectives, including philosophy, theology, history, literature, or other relevant disciplines.
Summary
Prospective Fellows will submit a proposal for their research into the theme of The Relationship Between Creativity and Human Flourishing. One Applicant will be accepted for the summer fellowship term. The fellow will receive a $250 stipend to aid their research and submit a 3,000 - 5,000 word scholarly essay. The essay will be peer reviewed by two scholars. The research will be considered for publication in the academy’s journal. The fellow and their research topic will be showcased by the academy online throughout the term, and they will receive the honorary title of “Academy Fellow” upon completion of the fellowship term to commemorate their relationship and contribution with The academy.

Application Requirements
Applicants should submit the following to info@phase2academy.org

Project Title

Research Proposal (minimum 300 words) outlining the proposed thesis/argument.

Short Biography, including academic background, research interests, and relevant experience
Research Topic Examples Might Include:

Creativity and human flourishing in Aristotle's philosophy

The role of beauty and artistic creation in human development

Creativity in the age of artificial intelligence

Leisure, imagination, and the good life
Selection Process
Applications will be evaluated by the Academy using a rubric based on scholarly merit, educational value, Mission alignment, and feasibility.
Fellowship Term
July 1st - August 12th (Research)
August 13th - September 22nd (Review)
The selected Fellow will receive a $250 stipend at the beginning of the fellowship term. The Fellow will then have the duration of the term to complete a scholarly research essay of approximately 3,000–5,000 words.
August 12, 2026
Final manuscript due to the Academy.
August 13 – September 1, 2026
Peer review period. The manuscript will be reviewed by two scholars, who will provide comments, recommendations, and suggested revisions.
September 2 – September 15, 2026
Revision period. The Fellow will have the opportunity to revise the manuscript in response to reviewer feedback and resubmit the final version to the Academy.
September 22, 2026
Final review completed. The research will be archived in the Academy's research database, and a publication decision will be issued.

Terms and Conditions
By submitting a proposal to the Phase 2 Academy of the Arts & Humanities Associate Research Fellowship Program, applicants acknowledge and agree to the following:

No Contractual Relationship
Submission of a proposal does not create an employment relationship, fellowship appointment, contractual agreement, or any other legal relationship between the applicant and the Academy. Selection for the fellowship is solely at the discretion of the Academy.

Selection Process
Fellowship recipients will be selected through a competitive review process. Submission of a proposal does not guarantee selection, funding, publication, recognition, or future affiliation with the Academy.

Accuracy of Information
Applicants are responsible for ensuring that all submitted information is accurate and truthful. The Academy reserves the right to disqualify applications containing materially false or misleading information.

Intellectual Property
Applicants retain ownership of their submitted proposals and research concepts. Submission of a proposal does not transfer any intellectual property rights to the Academy. Additional publication, licensing, and research-use terms will be provided to any selected Fellow prior to the commencement of the fellowship.

Review and Evaluation
Applicants understand that proposals may be reviewed by Academy staff, board members, advisors, scholars, or other individuals assisting in the evaluation process.

Program Modifications
The Academy reserves the right to modify, postpone, suspend, or cancel the fellowship program, stipend, deadlines, or selection process at any time if circumstances warrant.

Use of Applicant Information
Information submitted as part of an application will be used for fellowship administration, evaluation, and communication purposes. The Academy will not publicly disclose proposal materials without the applicant's consent, except as required by law.
